Private rooms

Your own room for your band. Only the people you invite can come in.

What is a private room?

A private room is a jam room that does not appear in the public room list. Each room has a name you choose and an 8-character code, such as K7QM-2XA9. The code is the key: whoever has it can come in, and nobody else can find the room.

You share the room with a link, https://www.ninjamzap.com/r/K7QM-2XA9, which opens NinjamZap with the room ready. There are no server addresses or passwords to type.

Availability: private rooms are being tested and are enabled per account. They require NinjamZap 1.0.10 (build 223) or later on iPhone, iPad or Mac. If the Private button does not appear on the Connection screen, the feature is not enabled for your account yet.

Create a room

Creating rooms requires signing in with an account. In Guest mode the Private tab shows: “Sign in with an account to create your own private rooms. You can still join one with a code.”

  1. On the Connection screen, the rooms button is split in two: Public | Private. Tap Private. The Rooms window opens on the Private tab; you can switch tabs at the top at any time.
  2. Tap + Create private room.
  3. Type a name, for example Tuesday jam, and tap Create.

The name is only shown to you and to the people you invite (up to 60 characters). The room gets its code at once.

Each account can hold up to 3 rooms; the list shows how many you have (1 of 3 rooms). With 3 rooms, the create button disappears: delete one to create another. Rooms do not expire; they stay in your list until you delete them.

Enter your room

  1. Tap Enter on the room. This selects the room but does not connect yet.
  2. Back on the Connection screen, the server address field is replaced by a card with a lock, the room name and Private room · code K7QM-2XA9.
  3. Tap Connect.

To go back to public rooms or a server address, tap Choose another room on the card.

Inside, it is a regular NinjamZap session: audio, video, chat and everything else work as in any room. If the connection drops, NinjamZap reconnects you to the same room automatically. The room stays in your list after everyone leaves, and the same code works next time.

Invite your band

Tap Share on the room, or the share icon on the room card of the Connection screen. The system share sheet opens with a message ready to send by WhatsApp, email or any other app:

Join my private NinjamZap room (Tuesday jam): https://www.ninjamzap.com/r/K7QM-2XA9

You can also simply dictate the code. The dash is optional and upper or lower case does not matter.

Important: anyone with the link or the code can come in. Share it only with the people you want in the room. If it reaches someone it should not, make a new code (see Manage your rooms).

Join a room you were invited to

Everyone who joins needs NinjamZap 1.0.10 (build 223) or later. Guests can join private rooms; only creating them requires an account.

With the invite link

Open the link on the device where NinjamZap is installed. The app opens with the room selected on the Connection screen; tap Connect. If you are not signed in, sign in or tap Continue as Guest first; the room is waiting for you afterwards. If NinjamZap is not installed, the page offers the App Store download.

With a code

  1. Tap Private, then Join with a code.
  2. Type the code. The dash is added automatically and lower case is fine. You can also paste the invite link, or the whole invitation message: the app picks the code out of it.
  3. Tap Enter the room, then Connect.

Codes never use the letters I, L, O or U, so there is no confusion with 1 and 0. If the code does not exist, the app shows: “No room has that code. Check it with whoever invited you.”

The “Invited” list

Every private room you enter is remembered on that device, in the Invited section of the Private tab, so you can return without the link. Tap Enter to select it again, or × (Remove from the list) to remove it. Your own rooms appear in your room list, not in this section.

Manage your rooms

Tap ⋯ (More options) on a room:

If a room changed or was deleted

NinjamZap checks the code again right before connecting, so you find out before trying to get in:

In every case, ask the room owner for the new link.
